#3PoetryAnthology is being published to coincide with, and celebrate, the fifth anniversary of Vanguard Editions, a not-for-profit press that receives no funding or financial support of any kind. So far, Vanguard has published three poetry anthologies and six original single-authored books of poetry, stories and art-writing. This anthology completes a triptych of poetry anthologies started in 2014, which sought to gather together some of the best new and established voices in the contemporary UK poetry scene. There are no themes to these anthologies; they are meant to act like exhibition catalogues, a showcase for the work itself without editorial filters. I am really pleased to say that more than half the poems here are previously unpublished and exclusive to #3PoetryAnthology, including new voices such as Shaun Hill, Ghazal Mosadeq and Lewis Todd and brand new work from prize-winning poets David Harsent and Toby Martinez de las Rivas. Thank you to all the contributors for creating this fabulous cross section of such extraordinary work. Finally, I’m including pieces by two fine poets—Mary MacRae and John Riley—both of whose lives were cruelly cut short. Their two poems—‘Song’ and ‘Poem’ respectively—are amongst their finest and amongst the finest I have ever read. It’s a joy to be able to include them. Richard Skinner Summer 2019 pp.72 / £7 incl.
